On Saturday 10 October, FOKE is getting its pink on.
I will be joining an incredible afternoon at Bacchus Marsh Golf Club, raising funds and awareness for hereditary cancers. This is a cause that sits very close to my heart.
Why this matters to me
Hereditary cancer is not an abstract idea in my life. Amber was diagnosed with cancer first. I was diagnosed with DCIS in 2018, and Amber passed away in 2020. Dad was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. The thread connecting the three of us was an inherited BRCA2 gene fault that ran through our family and increased our risk of certain cancers. Those experiences changed my body, my family and the direction of my work.
It is one of the reasons FOKE exists with so much colour and so much determination. I know the value of understanding your family health history, having the difficult conversations and finding people who make you feel less alone.
Wear a little pink or a lot. Just show up as yourself.
A very pink afternoon
The Get Your Pink On fundraiser brings women and men together for a three-course lunch, guest speakers, prizes, raffles and a live auction. Speakers from Inherited Cancers Australia and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre will share their work and talk about health checks and family health history.
FOKE will be there, bringing colour, good energy and a whole lot of pink.
